Correction: Toxic protein expression in Escherichia coli using a rhamnose-based tightly regulated and tunable promoter system

The Giacalone et al. article entitled “Toxic protein expression in Escherichia coli using a rhamnose-based tightly regulated and tunable promoter system” (BioTechniques 40:355-364; March 2006) contained labeling errors in (Figure 1). In (Figure 1)A, the gene labeled rhaT should have been listed as rhaB. In addition, every instance in which rhaT and rhaTRS appear in the body of the manuscript should instead read rhaB and rhaBRS, respectively. These replacements affect pages 355, 356, 358, and 361 of the publication. In (Figure 1), A and B, the features labeled rhaR should have been listed as rhaS and vice versa. A corrected version of this figure adjoins this notice.

Cloning strategy, plasmid maps, and multiple cloning site descriptions of pRHA vectors. (A) Representation of the cloning strategy used to generate pRHA vectors from the Escherichia coli chromosome. The sense strand primer introduces a multiple cloning site (MCS) and the appropriate restriction enzyme recognition site (RE). (B) Plasmid maps of pRHA-67, pRHA-109, and pRHA-113 show relative sizes, positions, and respective directionalities of the pRHA components. Vector pMPX-66 is not shown. (C) MCS sequences and corresponding restriction sites are shown for plasmids pRHA-67, pRHA-109, and pRHA-113.

Correction: Purification of hearts from zebrafish embryos

The Burns and MacRae article entitled “Purification of hearts from zebrafish embryos” (BioTechniques 40:274-282; March 2006) incorrectly reported that 30-mm plates were used. The method should have stated that 60-mm plates were used in all experiments.

Correction: Direct quantification of gene expression in homogenates of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues

An error appeared in Yang et al. (BioTechniques 40:481-486; April 2006) in the article entitled “Direct quantification of gene expression in homogenates of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.” In the Materials and Methods section entitled Tissue Homogenate Preparation and Total RNA Isolation from FFPE Tissue Sections, the authors referred to a “xylene-containing” dewaxing solution; however, this product is actually xylene-free. The sentence in question should read: “One milliliter of xylene-free EZ-DeWax™ (BioGenex, San Ramon, CA, USA) was added to each sample.”

The authors regret this oversight. The PDF version of the article, available at www.BioTechniques.com , has been corrected.
