In situ imaging of the superficial vasculature of rat cerebral cortex by widefield confocal microscopy. Whole rat brain was incubated in phalloidin-Alexa 568, HPA lectin-Alexa 488, and DAPI with a permeablizing agent for 2 hours. Montaged maximum-intensity projection of 50 1-micrometer–thick optical sections was obtained using an Olympus Fluoview FV1000 confocal imaging system on an IX81 platform.
