Two-photon imaging of intrinsic fluorescence in sphagnum moss. Sphagnum have an intricate cellular structure to aid in the absorption of water to prevent desiccation. Water absorbing hyaline cells rely on the structural support of the cell wall (cyan) to absorb water through the pores (seen in inset), while smaller chlorphyllose cells contain chloroplasts (magenta) and provide the energy required to maintain the plant.
