Genomics in the Cloud: Benchtalk, Episode 5

In this episode, bioinformatics experts Konstantinos Krampis and Angel Pizarro join host Andrew S. Wiecek to discuss how cloud computing is reducing the bottleneck of DNA sequence analysis in genomics.

	Konstantinos Krampis Interview At the J. Craig Venter Institute, Krampis lead the development of the JCVI Cloub Biolinux resource. In March 2012, Krampis and colleagues published a paper in BMC Bioinformatics describing the Cloud Biolinux resource. Angel Pizarro Interview At the University of Pennsylvania, Pizarro heads the Bioinformatics Facility at the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics. Recently, Pizarro has also published a paper in Molecular Cell Proteomics on a new data standard for mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Science Roundtable In a May 2012 BioTechniques news article, Williams wrote about a competition to develop better DNA sequence compression algorithms. In June 2012, Yeager wrote about a Duke University research who recieved $300,000 to expand a computer cloud cluster through out the campus. Last month, a NIH working gorup released a report that highlighted recommendations to better train the biomedical workforce. In July 2012, Yeager wrote about the sequencing of single sperm cells.
