The three winning images from the GE Healthcare Life Sciences' 2008 IN CELL Image Competition were displayed on the high-definition screen located in New York's Times Square earlier this month.
The winning images as well as the other chosen entries can be viewed on Flickr and on the competition's website. The winning entries will also be displayed at the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) annual conference in Lille, France in April and in the 2010 IN Cell Analyzer Image Competition calendar.
One of the winning entries was featured on the February 2009 cover of BioTechniques magazine.
This year's competition was launched in November 2008 and received over 80 images created by scientists from more than 10 countries. The images were then chosen by a scientific panel and the winners were determined through a public vote with 2,000 participants.
The winners said that the competition showcases the excitement, beauty, and fascination of science to the public.
