The 2013 Lab Grammy Award 2013 is set to be one of the best in the prestigious award’s long three-year history. Ok, well, prestigious might be exaggerating just a bit, but we’re extremely excited about this year’s nominees, which include infectious performances from some of our favorite science music acts as well as budding new lab artists.
Last year, Mark Grabiner won the top award with his “Grad School, I Love You (But You’re Bringing Me Down),” a parody of LCD Soundsystem’s “New York, I Love You (But You’re Bringing Me Down.)” This year, Grabiner is back with another parody of life (or lack thereof) in the molecular biology lab.
But he’ll be competing against a strong field of new acts that includes groups from Case Western School of Medicine, the University of Calgary, Marshall University, and the University of California, Berkeley.
And finally, there’s Nathaniel Krefman from the University of California, Berkeley who has been the epitome of consistency in the three-year history of our award, showing a talent for funny, geeky pop parodies. He had two nominations in 2011 and one more in 2012, but never won the top award. Could this be Krefman’s year to to win the award?
Only your votes will tell. The winner will be determined by our online poll. Voting will close at 12pm ET on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. The winner will be announced in our February 14 weekly newsletter. To subscribe for free, sign up here.
