The new chimeras on the block

A team of researchers from China and the USA has combined human stem cells and primate embryos into chimeras, which were grown for up to 20 days. While promising insight for various life science fields, the research has raised fresh ethical concerns. Back in 2019 we covered the same team’s creation of the first human—monkey chimera. At that time, the team were keen to work towards a future where we have the ability to create transplantable human organs, along with better models.
