Characterizing organoids

Our understanding of human health and disease has advanced in recent years, in part due to ground-breaking work using in vitro 3D cell culture models, such as single and multicellular spheroids and organoids. Key to the optimization of 3D cell culture models is the ability to image, quantify and monitor these models as they form and grow over time. However, there are limitations associated with the technologies used to characterize and analyze these complex cell models.

In this In Focus, we will explore the challenges associated with characterizing organoids, different methods of characterization, and the pros and cons of each method.
