Abstract

There are different types of biomolecules that play an important role in the biological system, each one executing a distinct function. Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) and Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) are two such molecules that carry genetic information. To study their nature and utility they need to be separated from the cells in which they are present, a process referred to as extraction. Practically this can be achieved with a well-defined procedure usually available with commercial kits. These kits differ from each other in terms of methods or chemistries they use. The quality of DNA/RNA may affect the further applications for which they are intended. This study compares four different commercially available kits for the extraction of RNA and suggests what to consider to obtain a good quality product that can fulfill our requirements.
